High Performance Physiotherapy

What is high performance physiotherapy?

IMG_9084 (1).jpg

High performance physiotherapy is athletic guidance and management to not only rehabilitate from injuries, but to ultimately build a robust athlete that is resilient to breaking down and can continually improve performance.

Unlike traditional physiotherapy, high performance physiotherapy is experience gained from working exclusively with high performing athletes on a regular basis.

High performance physiotherapy means we don't aim to return you to play, but rather return you to perform.

Who is high performance physiotherapy for?

High performance physiotherapy is for any athlete who takes their training, athletic development and injury prevention seriously. Our unique Barwon Sports Physio program allows any community, sub-elite or elite athlete to train in the same way a fully resourced elite athlete would, with the support and guidance of a whole dedicated team.

Our goal is to help everyday athletes and professionals alike to get access to world-leading science-based knowledge to help adapt training methods to help produce better outcomes.

Typical clients we treat are:

  • Elite sports professionals from any league, for example AFL, soccer, tennis, running, athletics, netball, basketball

  • Promising junior athletes early in their sporting career wanting to improve their chances of success and reduce injury down-time

  • Sub-elite professionals who want to perform to their best

  • Amateur sports professionals who want to get the most of the limited time they can train and perform

What does a standard high performance physiotherapy treatment look like?

At Barwon Sports Physio, we use evidence based research to inform musculoskeletal assessment and physiotherapy to improve function of sporting professionals.

This involves taking a thorough subjective assessment (talking and listening to you, the patient) in combination with a hands-on (but COVID safe) physical and movement-based assessment to make an accurate diagnosis of your true condition.

Our initial consultation includes an injury assessment and diagnosis or athletic musculoskeletal screening. We use up-to-date evidence based high performance physiotherapy practices to inform our manual and exercise based treatment.

Key to this is educating you, the patient, about your condition, as we strongly believe the more you know the better. We will then put together a customised plan based on your individual training goals and needs analysis, including long-term athletic development and any rehabilitation planning.

Following this, we will work with you to progress through rehabilitation and build towards athletic development programming.

We will help track progress with regular testing and development assessments to constantly review the training program for optimal outcomes.

The long-term goal of high performance physiotherapy in all cases is to build more resilient athletes who can perform at a higher level more consistently, and return from injury faster.
